The state of Colorado announced plans Tuesday to build a resort at the popular Chula Vista resort, a place where tourists flock for its spectacular views of the Colorado Rockies.
The state Department of Public Health said the resort would be located at the intersection of Chula Boulevard and Chula Road, between the resorts resort and Cholla Vista.
The department’s announcement came after it received comments from the resort’s owners.
“The Chula Vistas is the premier destination in the Colorado Mountain region,” the department said in a statement.
“We are committed to continuing to provide visitors with the highest-quality experiences and services.
This new facility will further enhance the ChulaVistas experience for future generations.”
Colorado’s Department of Tourism said it was developing a plan to begin construction next month on the resort, which would include an indoor ski slope and a pool.
It said construction will begin on the ski slope in late 2019, but construction could take up to two years.
The resort will also feature a bar and dining facility.
“We’re excited to continue to provide the Chulas most unique experience, and we look forward to sharing the latest in Colorado-made ski and snowboarding gear with guests,” the state department said.
Chula Vista Resort, located at 1350 Chula Highway, was established in 1931 by the brothers, David and George Chula.
The Chulas are well known for their popular ski resorts, including the iconic Chula Peak, which has been closed for a number of years.
The resort is owned by John D. and Jane D. Chula, whose holdings include several resorts and hotels in the region.
Cholla Vista is located about 90 miles (145 kilometers) northwest of Denver.
The announcement comes just weeks after the resort announced plans to build an indoor snowboarding park and resort.
It was unclear Tuesday whether the resort had made a decision to build the resort.
