Nude beaches, beaches with swimming pools, and resorts with swimming pool access have been ordered closed by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) after an unprecedented outbreak in the state.
The US health agency said on Thursday it had reported 1,000 new cases in the past month in Pennsylvania, and more than 3,000 cases in eight other states.
It said the number of new cases was expected to increase in coming days.
The new cases have prompted the closure of beaches, pools, swimming pools and other public facilities in Pennsylvania.
The state’s public health department has been ordered to begin limiting access to all areas of public beaches and pools by June 7.
The outbreak comes amid a new outbreak in North Carolina, where people are reporting having had high-risk encounters with the Ebola virus in the last week.
