8 October 2017 08:10:16A wave of flooding has swept across Gaza, hitting several major resorts and towns, including the Bani Sa’ada resort and the B’Tselem settlement, and leaving more than a dozen dead.
Palestinian Health Ministry spokesperson Ashraf al-Qudra told Al Jazeera the number of people affected was unknown.
He said that many resorts were completely flooded, including one that had about 3,000 guests, and the others had around 1,000 people.
The floodwaters were so high that people were stuck at the waterfalls, which are situated in some of the most picturesque places in Gaza, and some resort owners had not yet repaired their buildings and are still without power.
Al-Quda said the Baliyah resort had only 100 rooms left, but that many of its employees had already been displaced due to the flooding.
The resort has also been hit by heavy rain, which damaged a few structures and caused widespread mudslides.
